According to "Government Space Markets, World Prospects to 2020." worldwide government spending on space is expected to flatten over the next five years. This is due to several factors including Defense procurement, which has driven budget growth for a decade, particularly in the United States. The publication also predicts that with governments across the world adopting strict spending policies, the space sector will experience a new era of cooperation as governments strive to make their programs as efficient as possible in order to compensate for budget limitations. The report also states that, aside from any manned flights, a total of 692 satellites will be launched by governments in the coming decade, up 43% from the previous decade.

Production has begun in Vancouver on Syfy's highly anticipated 2-hour pilot, "Battlestar Galactica: Blood And Chrome, the all-new chapter in the saga. The film takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the  Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful Battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Joining Pasqualino and Cotton in the cast is Lili Bordan, who will play Dr. Beka Kelly, a Ph.D. who worked for Graystone Industries that created the Cylon robots.

Things are not looking good for the two "Independence Day" sequels that were reported on in March last year. At the same time that director Roland Emmerich gave Empire Magazine more positive news about the upcoming Isaac Asimov Foundation films, he revealed that Independence day 2 is nowhere"."It's back and forth, back and forth," he said. "There's no script because I don't want to write anything before anything starts." Emmerich did say of Independence Day 2 that "one day it will happen".

Charlize Theron has signed on to star in Ridley Scott's high-profile 20th Century Fox science fiction movie, "Prometheus". The film is slated for release in June 8, 2012 and will also star  Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. The movie was originally slated as being a prequel to "Alien," but has reportedly morphed into a different film entirely but still retaining some "Alien DNA," according to Ridley Scott.
