OTHER NEWS
CFCs or chlorofluorocarbons,  have been largely banned worldwide for the last 20 years, and the results are beginning to reap rewards: Australian researchers have just recently been able to accurately model complex seasonal weather patterns over the South Pole. For the first time they've been able to accurately estimate the systematic changes in ozone levels over the last few years that shows that the ozone levels are rising, and have improved by 15% since they hit an all-time low in the late 1990s.

Remember the movie “Minority Report,” how cameras everywhere would scan Tom Cruise, instantly recognizing him to either welcome him into the shopping mall or send the cops after him? The same sort of facial recognition technology is exactly what Digital Signal Corporation is into–except these guys are for real. DSC recently received $15 million to develop three dimensional long-range biometric facial recognition technology.

While production is just getting underway with the big-screen version of "The Hunger Games", Lionsgate is so confident the movie will be a hit they’ve decided to adapt the trilogy of novels into four feature films. “The property is generating tremendous buzz and excitement, and it all points to a major Lionsgate franchise in the making,” CEO Jon Feltheimer said during an analysts’ call Wednesday."The Hunger Games" books have sold mostly in North America, however now they are starting to penetrate the international market, raising the movies’ box office potential overseas.

According to Sony Pictures UK, "Bond 23", which is the working title for the franchise’s next James Bond film, will arrive in theaters in the UK on October 26, 2012. The film’s U.S. release date has been set for November 9, 2012. Plans for "Bond 23" were reportedly put on hold last year as MGM faced a financial crisis, but were revived once the company emerged from bankruptcy in November 2010. Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes will direct the film, and Daniel Craig will return as Agent 007.

Star of "Limitless" Bradley Cooper has revealed that he is working on an adaptation of the popular science fiction series "Hyperion"  "My friend and I went to producer Graham King, who owns the rights to "Hyperion" and we wrote a treatment on spec." The 1989 novel from author Dan Simmons follows a planet called Hyperion that houses powerful artifacts known as Time Tombs, which are guarded by a mysterious antihero called Shrike.

NBC’s recently canceled series "The Event" could get a second chance on Syfy and not just as syndicated repeats. The shows creators are in conversations with the cable outlet about a possible wrap-up mini-series for the show.
