OTHER NEWS
Snake Plissken may still try to "Escape From New York", but it won’t be for New Line Cinema. The studio has dropped its reboot of the John Carpenter directed classic. With New Line deciding to pass, that means the rights to reboot the original are back up for grabs. So it could only be a matter of time until another studio decides to take a crack at a reboot.
Warner Bros has pulled the next Superman film, "The Man Of Steel" starring Henry Cavill, from its late 2012 release to June 14th, 2013. Some think it is due to the ongoing rights dispute between DC Comics and the estates of it's creators.
"Space: Above And Beyond" producer James Wong is developing a new sci-fi film titled 2084. The Terminator-style project will become a franchise, with three young-adult novels being written by debut author Gregg Rosenblum. The story is set in the late 21st century, a time where robots, once created to aid humans and fight wars, now control the population's every move.
The trusty Hubble space telescope has recently discovered a fourth moon orbiting the Kuiper Belt Object known as Pluto. Famously once a planet, Pluto still triumphantly occupies the icy outer-rim of our solar system and up until recently was thought to have three satellites: Hydra, Charon, and Nix. The Hubble has now detected P4, which astronomers think is roughly 8 to 21 miles long.
Russia has taken one more step in filling the US space gap by launching the most advanced radio telescope ever built. Spectrum-R is designed to study sources of radio waves from stellar phenomena, including pulsars, quasars, black holes, and neutron stars. The space telescope was initially conceived of decades ago but was mothballed after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
The US spacecraft Dawn has entered the orbit of Vesta, one of the largest asteroids in the solar system.Dawn is expected to come within 10,000 miles of Vesta to study its surface while traveling 116 million miles from Earth. "It has taken nearly four years to get to this point," said Robert Mase, manager of the $466 million project at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. After a year of observations and measurements around Vesta, Dawn will depart for its second destination, the dwarf planet Ceres, in July 2012.
